|Jul 9 - Jul 12
morning / afternoon
This land spans two continents and has earthquakes like California does. The earliest town ever found in the whole world lies in Turkey and people have been building there for 10,000 years. Turkey once controlled an empire that extended from Algeria in the west to Iraq in the east and from Hungary in the north and Saudi Arabia in the south. This empire lasted 600 years. Students will learn about Suleiman the Magnificent and Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey. They’ll see how the ancient African game of Mancala became Mangala and is still played today and the origins of Blind Man’s Bluff.
