The UCSD mascot is Monte Montezuma. San Diego’s world-famous park is named for Vasco Núñez de Balboa. Who were these men and how are they connected to our city? Hernando Cortes was the Spanish conquistador who conquered Montezuma’s capital Tenochtitlan, after being driven from the city and losing many soldiers. Learn how microscopic germs had more to do with his victory than his military skills.
